There’s something magical about golden hour at Lake Halbert here in Corsicana. When Sarah and Mike reached out to me about photographing their engagement session, they mentioned how much this lake meant to them—it’s where Mike first told Sarah he loved her during a sunset picnic two years ago. I knew immediately we had to return to that special spot to capture this next chapter of their story.

Planning the Perfect Timing

We scheduled their session for late afternoon in early April, when the Texas wildflowers were in full bloom and the temperature was perfect—not too hot, not too cool. Spring in Navarro County gives us the best of both worlds: lush greenery and those stunning golden skies that make every photo feel like a painting.

I always recommend my couples wear colors that complement the natural landscape. Sarah chose a flowing cream dress that caught the breeze beautifully, while Mike kept it classic in a blue button-down and khakis. The soft, neutral tones let their connection be the real focus of every frame.

Finding Authentic Moments

My favorite part of any engagement session is when couples forget the camera is there. About twenty minutes in, Mike made Sarah laugh with an inside joke, and she buried her face in his shoulder with the biggest smile. Those are the moments I live for—the real, unscripted joy that tells your unique story.

We wandered along the shoreline, paused under the old oak trees, and even ventured out onto the dock as the sun began its descent. The reflection on the water created the most dreamy backdrop, especially when they slow-danced without any music playing.

Why Local Locations Matter

As a Corsicana photographer, I’m passionate about showcasing the beauty right here in our hometown. You don’t need to travel hours away for stunning engagement photos. Lake Halbert, the historic downtown courthouse square, Pioneer Village—we have incredible locations that make your photos uniquely yours and uniquely Texas.

Plus, choosing familiar spots often helps couples relax. There’s comfort in being somewhere meaningful, and that comfort translates into more natural, authentic images.

The Results

Sarah and Mike’s session gave us over 80 beautiful images that captured their playful energy, quiet tenderness, and genuine excitement for their upcoming wedding. These photos will be perfect for their save-the-dates, and I can’t wait to see which ones they choose to display at their reception this fall.
